Why Do I Need Medical Insurance?

Giving birth at a private facility with no cover can cost tens of thousands of Rands, whether you opt for a natural birth or a c-section. Provided you’ve been a member for longer than your waiting period, Affinity Health will help you cover that cost.

You also have the option of giving birth at a government hospital, however, there is a misconception that this is free. Government facilities charge based on your income and tax bracket, so although you’ll receive a smaller bill, you’ll still receive a bill.

What If I’m Already Pregnant Before I Sign Up?

Unfortunately, the scheme won’t cover your birth. But there’s good news! The policy can still be beneficial for your child, as they’ll be covered the moment they’re born.

You will also be covered for non-pregnancy-related conditions, such as the flu.

This means that there are fewer things for you to worry about while you’re growing your bundle of joy!

Once your baby is born, you can contact our customer care team to arrange how you will pay the monthly premium for your newest dependent. This must be done within 30 days of the birth of your baby.

This doesn’t hinder your baby’s access to immediate medical care should they need it. They will automatically qualify for the same benefits as the main member of the policy. Registering them on your policy within 30 days is important because it avoids waiting periods for access to cover.
