Affinity Health and The 100% Foundation give back to underprivileged school children in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality of Gauteng.
School Shoes Drive
Affinity Health and The 100% Foundation believe that there is no greater joy than putting a smile on a child’s face. The two organisations collaborated to provide new pairs of school shoes to impoverished pupils at Chief Luthuli Primary School.
A total of 70 pairs of shoes were donated to this great cause by Affinity Health staff members. The shoes were distributed to youngsters in grades 5, 6 and 7.
The learners at Chief Luthuli Primary School are from economically challenged neighbourhoods and each child has a unique story.
Remarkably, despite their challenges, these children are achieving remarkable academic performances with the help and dedication of the team of teachers, the principal, and extra staff. At Chief Luthuli, all students are encouraged to be curious and creative thinkers who respect themselves and others.
“Many rural parents are unable to afford school shoes for their children. Our vision is to provide shoes for as many vulnerable children in South Africa as we can,” says Murray Hewlett, CEO of Affinity Health. “A new pair of school shoes protect a small child’s feet on the playground, on the sports field, or even while trudging home on a gravel road in the biting cold.”
Affinity Health and The 100% Foundation are hoping to collect more school shoes and reach many more learners in the months to come.
“As winter fast approaches, many learners will be left with no other choice but to brave the cold and walk to school barefoot. We are committed to extending this drive to keep collecting school shoes for underprivileged learners,” concludes Hewlett.
